# How to Configure Consent Mode

> Turn on Consent Mode under Settings → Reporting so the Upstack pixel stops tracking visitors who decline consent in Shopify's cookie banner. Not legal advice.

## What does Consent Mode do?

Consent Mode is off by default. When it's on, the Upstack pixel reads each visitor's choice from your Shopify cookie consent banner:

| What the visitor chose | What the Upstack pixel does |
| - | - |
| Declined analytics or marketing | Sends no events |
| Accepted analytics and marketing | Tracks as normal |
| Hasn't chosen yet, or your store has no Shopify consent banner | Tracks as normal |

If a visitor changes their choice, the pixel follows the new choice. Orders still reach Upstack directly from Shopify.

## How do I turn on Consent Mode?

1. In [Upstack Data](https://app.upstackdata.com/account/settings/dashboard), click **Settings → Reporting**.
2. Under **Privacy**, turn on **Enable Consent Mode**.
3. Click **Save Changes**.
