# Cost per Low AOV Purchase: Budget-Conscious Acquisition Costs

> Track cost per low AOV purchase for your Shopify store. Measure ad spend efficiency for below-threshold orders and optimize budget-conscious customer acquisition.

<Tip>
  Average ad spend per low AOV purchase event tracked by the Upstack pixel—orders falling below your store's average order value threshold.

## Formula

<Info>
  **Cost per Low AOV Purchase** = **Channel Spend** ÷ **Low AOV Purchases**

### Formula Components

| Metric                                                                           | Definition                                                                  |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Channel Spend** | Total advertising spend across all connected ad platforms |
| [**Low AOV Purchases**](/reference/metrics/funnel/conversions/low-aov-purchases) | Purchase events where order value falls below your configured AOV threshold |

## Example

Your Shopify store spent **\$25,000 on ads** this month. You track purchases where order value falls below **\$85** as low AOV purchases:

| Order Value Segment  | Purchases | Share    |
| -------------------- | --------- | -------- |
| Low AOV (under \$85) | 788       | 72%      |
| High AOV (\$85+)     | 312       | 28%      |
| **Total**            | **1,100** | **100%** |

**Cost per Low AOV Purchase** = \$25,000 ÷ 788 = **\$31.73**

## How It Works

This metric divides your total advertising spend by low AOV purchase events tracked by the Upstack pixel. Low AOV purchases are orders where the cart value falls below a predefined threshold based on your store's average order value. The metric helps identify how much you're spending to acquire budget-conscious customers from your Shopify store and whether campaigns are efficiently driving lower-value orders.

## When to Use

| Scenario                         | Action                                                                          |
| -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Evaluating campaign efficiency | Compare low AOV CPA against high AOV CPA to assess audience quality |
| Identifying upsell opportunities | High volume of low AOV purchases signals potential for cart-building strategies |
| Setting free shipping thresholds | Use CPA data to justify minimum order requirements that improve profitability |
| Channel budget allocation | Shift spend away from channels with high low-AOV acquisition costs |
