# Cost per Content Downloaded: Measure Content Acquisition Cost

> Calculate cost per content download to measure content marketing efficiency. Track advertising spend per lead magnet engagement.

<Tip>
  Cost per Content Downloaded measures the average advertising spend required to generate one content download event.
</Tip>

## Formula

<Info>
  **Cost per Content Downloaded** = **Channel Spend** ÷ **Content Downloaded**
</Info>

### Formula Components

| Metric                                                                            | Definition                                  |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| [**Channel Spend**](/reference/metrics/advertising/blended/blended-spend) | Total advertising spend across all channels |
| [**Content Downloaded**](/reference/metrics/funnel/engagement/content-downloaded) | Count of content download events |

| --------------- | ----------------------- |
| **Type**        | Currency                |
| **Data Source** | [Upstack Pixel](/pixel) |
| **Aggregation** | Ratio                   |

## Example

Your B2B company spent **\$8,500** promoting lead magnets in March, generating **1,700 downloads**.

| Content Campaign    | Spend       | Downloads   | Cost/Download |
| ------------------- | ----------- | ----------- | ------------- |
| Industry Report Ads | \$4,000     | 920         | \$4.35        |
| Ebook Promotion     | \$2,500     | 480         | \$5.21        |
| Guide Retargeting   | \$2,000     | 300         | \$6.67        |
| **Total**           | **\$8,500** | **\$1,700** | **\$5.00**    |

## How It Works

The metric divides total advertising spend by the number of content download events tracked by the Upstack Pixel. Lower costs indicate more efficient content distribution. This helps identify which content assets and promotion channels deliver the best engagement value.

## When to Use

| Scenario                   | Action                                         |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Evaluate content campaigns | Compare cost efficiency across promotions |
| Budget content marketing | Allocate spend to high-performing assets |
| Optimize ad targeting | Refine audiences to reduce download costs |
| Benchmark against leads | Compare to Cost per Lead for funnel efficiency |
