# Cost per Remove from Cart: Cart Abandonment Efficiency

> Track the average cost per remove from cart event. Measure ad spend efficiency relative to cart abandonment behavior tracked by the Upstack pixel.

<Tip>
  Cost per Remove from Cart measures how much ad spend corresponds to each cart removal event tracked by the Upstack pixel.
</Tip>

## Formula

<Info>
  **Cost per Remove from Cart** = **Channel Spend** ÷ **Remove from Cart Events**
</Info>

### Formula Components

| Metric                                                                    | Definition                                                                          |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [**Channel Spend**](/reference/metrics/advertising/blended/blended-spend) | Total advertising spend across all connected ad channels |
| **Remove from Cart Events** | Total times visitors removed products from their cart, tracked by the Upstack pixel |

| Metadata        |                         |
| --------------- | ----------------------- |
| **Type**        | Currency                |
| **Data Source** | [Upstack Pixel](/pixel) |
| **Aggregation** | Ratio                   |

## Example

Your store spent **\$8,000** on advertising last month and tracked **640 remove from cart events**.

| Metric                        | Value       |
| ----------------------------- | ----------- |
| Channel Spend                 | \$8,000     |
| Remove from Cart Events       | 640         |
| **Cost per Remove from Cart** | **\$12.50** |

For every \$12.50 spent on advertising, one visitor removed an item from their cart.

## How It Works

This metric divides your total advertising spend by the number of remove from cart events tracked by the Upstack pixel. Unlike traditional funnel metrics where lower values indicate better performance, this metric provides context for understanding cart abandonment relative to ad spend. A rising cost per removal may indicate improved cart retention, while a falling cost may suggest visitors are removing items more frequently per dollar spent.

## When to Use

| Scenario                            | Action                                                             |
| ----------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Analyzing cart abandonment patterns | Compare against cost per add to cart to assess cart retention |
| Evaluating pricing changes | Monitor if price adjustments affect removal behavior |
| Testing checkout UX improvements | Track if changes reduce removal frequency relative to traffic |
| Identifying product-level issues | Correlate high-value removals with specific products or categories |
