If Meta Events Manager shows “Server sending expired fbclid value in fbc parameter”, this is expected with Upstack and no action is needed. Meta also words this warning as “Send valid Meta ClickIDs for your events” or “Replace the stale fbclid value in your storage with a fresh one received for the same user.”

What is it?

When someone clicks one of your Meta ads, Meta creates a click ID (fbclid), which is sent with your events as the fbc parameter. Meta treats a click ID as expired 90 days after the click. This warning counts events sent with a click ID older than that.

What does it mean?

These events come from returning customers who clicked one of your Meta ads more than 90 days ago, haven’t clicked one since, and came back on their own (through email, direct, or search) to browse or buy. Upstack keeps each customer’s click ID beyond 90 days because it still identifies that customer. It always sends the most recent one: as soon as a customer clicks a new ad, the new click ID replaces the old one.

Do I need to be concerned?

No.
  • Meta still accepts these events and matches them using the other customer information Upstack sends, such as email, phone, IP address, and External ID.
  • A click from more than 90 days ago is outside Meta’s attribution windows, so it doesn’t take credit away from a recent ad.
  • Meta shows the same message, including its estimates of improved results, to every advertiser it flags.

Is it normal?

Yes. Most Upstack accounts see this warning, especially brands with many repeat customers or subscriptions. It may come and go as your traffic changes.

Is any action necessary?

No. There’s nothing to change in Upstack or in Meta.
  • Meta suggests replacing the stale value with a fresh one for the same user. Upstack already does this whenever the customer clicks a new ad.
  • You don’t need Meta’s Parameter Builder. Upstack already sends fbc and fbp with your Conversions API events.
“Server sending modified fbc value” is a different warning with different causes. See Modified FBC value warning.
