Blended Cost per Trial Start measures how much you spend on advertising to get one free trial signup. Meta and TikTok are the platforms that report trial starts, so only their spend counts.

Formula

Blended Cost per Trial Start = ( Meta Spend + TikTok Spend ) ÷ Blended Trial Starts

Formula Components

Example

Your SaaS company ran ads on all three platforms last month: Dividing Blended Spend ($5,000) by the same 200 trials would give $25.00, charging Google’s budget to trials it didn’t report.

How It Works

Upstack adds Meta and TikTok spend and divides by the trial starts those two platforms report. Trial starts come from Meta and from TikTok’s total_start_trial app metric. The Google Ads API has no trial start metric, so Google spend is left out. In the app the formula reads Meta + TikTok Spend ÷ Trial Starts. TikTok rows imported before Upstack started importing TikTok trial starts have none. For older dates the metric may show no value, or a cost that is too high, until TikTok data for that period is re-imported.
